http://www.bbc.co.uk/schoolreport/teacher_resources/ - There are some good lessons and activities to help students understand the conventions of and how to organize a television news broadcast. The resources are good for any age group, but the target audience of the activities are mainly between the ages of 10-16. I used the resources to introduce different concepts and skills.
Can you identify the conventions of a television news broadcast?
-Ident
-Business attire
-Formal language
-CGI (e.g., Aston, Ident, etc.)
-Interview
-Open questions
-Running Order
-Timeliness
-Proximity of the events are close to home or stories that people can relate to
-Touching or funny news story at the end of the running order
-Prominence of the news (e.g., well-known people, celebrities, etc.)
-Active voice is used in order to present the news in a succinct manner
